A Brief History of Disney and the Oscars

Disney is no stranger to the Academy Awards. Walt Disney, the man himself, won an honorary Oscar in 1939 for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which was recognized as a "significant screen innovation". The award consisted of one golden statuette and seven miniature statuettes, representing the seven dwarfs. It was presented to him by child actor Shirley Temple.

Disney and Pixar feature-length animated movies have since gone on to win over 30 Oscars in different categories, most often best original song and best animated feature.

Disney failed to snag the first Academy Award for best animated feature, which was introduced in 2002 (Shrek won). But between 2007 and 2016, Disney and Pixar were unbeatable, holding the record for the most consecutive wins in that category.
