Smart, headstrong bookworm Belle wishes she could live a more exciting life than what she has lived in her new little town, where 'every day is like the one before'. Against all expectation, her wish comes true when she finds herself imprisoned in the enchanted castle of the Beast.
Belle appears within the first two minutes of Beauty and the Beast, released on November 15th 1991. She is first seen emerging from the cottage she shares with her father, Maurice, in the early morning. Subsequently, she appeared in the midquels The Enchanted Christmas and Belle's Magical World and the motion picture Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2.
Belle is a French adjective that means "beautiful" as well as a noun that means "beauty". In the classic French fairytale, Belle is the youngest of three daughters. She is sometimes referred to as la Belle, or the Beauty.
